What is MI & Psychedelic Assisted Therapy

During this short course we discuss the overlap between being a skilled Motivational Interviewing practitioner and descriptions in the literature of being a competent psychedelic therapist. There will be an emphasis on the spirit of Motivational Interviewing and how clinicians learn to embody that spirit in sessions. Dr. Bringle will provide an overview of psychedelic assisted therapy specific to working with ketamine including stages of treatment, common themes in therapy, and the importance of moving from psychedelic insights to meaningful behavior change.

Who Can Attend?

Even though the session may be best suited for those who have already learned the basics of motivational interviewing, all are welcome to attend and participate. In reality any helping professional interested in learning more about the utilization of MI in Psychedelics Assisted Therapy.

Course syllabus

Speaker Bio:

Joshua Bringle, PH.D.

Joshua Bringle earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2007. He completed his doctoral internship at the Boston Consortium in Clinical Psychology. He completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Palliative Care at the GRECC at the James J. Peters VAMC in the Bronx, NY, and joined the Charles George VAMC in 2007. He is licensed as a psychologist in North Carolina. Dr. Bringle has worked in Geropsychology, Hospice and Palliative Care, Emergency Department, and acute care settings. Since June 2022, he has done Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and has experience as a trainer and consultant. In March 2023 he completed a certificate in MDMA-Assisted Therapy from the Multidisciplinary Associated of Psychedelic Studies and in May 2023 he completed a certificate in Psychedelic Therapy and Research from the California Institute for Integral Studies.

Following the learning session and completion of End of Course evaluation, participants will receive an email with their downloadable CE certificate within 48 hours.
