Motivational Interviewing in Documentation: Considerations for Getting It 'Write' (3hr)

We are often asked by Motivational Interviewing learners, “How do I document that I used Motivational Interviewing?” Staff, agency leads, MI coaches and supervisors have reasons to focus on MI to documentation to demonstrate an evidence-based practice is being utilized by staff. We know that the MI intention and skills that we bring to encounters with clients or patients impacts the session and client outcomes. Together, we will explore how we translate the Motivational Interviewing that we use in sessions to written descriptions through brainstorms and experiential practice activities. Participants will complete this training with an understanding of the relationship between MI intention, practice and documentation, as well as understand the complexities of MI fidelity and ethical considerations. Participants will receive a useful packet of materials to guide MI documentation. This will be a live, interactive Zoom meeting format with limited spots.
